ABOUT ZIMS
The Zagreb International Medical Summit (ZIMS) is an annual congress organized by the European Medical Students’ Association (EMSA) Zagreb, held in early December. This four-day event brings together students and young doctors from Croatia, Europe, and across the globe. Participants have the opportunity to attend lectures, engage in workshops, and present their scientific work. Successful submissions are also published in the journal “Liječnički vjesnik.” While the event is primarily held in person, adjustments have been made in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a fully online format in 2020 and a hybrid version in 2021.
Purpose of the Project
The primary goal of ZIMS is to enhance the presentation skills of young doctors and students by allowing them to present their scientific research to a panel of esteemed professors and doctors from the University of Zagreb’s School of Medicine. This congress serves as a platform for attendees to publish their work, share insights with peers, and deepen their knowledge through lectures and practical workshops. In addition to its academic purpose, ZIMS promotes networking and cultural exchange by incorporating social events, such as exploring Advent in Zagreb, highlighting the city’s cultural offerings.
Previous ZIMS Topics
Over the years, ZIMS has explored a wide range of medical topics. In 2023, the congress focused on “Sports Medicine,” covering lectures on sports injuries, cardiology, and physiology. The 2022 edition delved into “Law & Medicine,” addressing topics such as medical ethics, the right to diagnosis, and involuntary treatment in psychiatry. In 2021, the theme was “Plastic Surgery & Social Media,” exploring how social media influences body image and plastic surgery practices. Each year, the chosen theme ensures that attendees gain specialized knowledge in a focused area of medicine, contributing to their professional development.
